Broward's courthouses

Broward County makes up Florida's Seventeenth Judicial Circuit. The main courthouse is the Broward County Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale, and the county also runs regional courthouses in Deerfield Beach, Hollywood and Plantation. Your paperwork will show where your case is assigned.

A first or second DUI is usually a misdemeanor handled in county court. Felony DUI charges, such as a third DUI within 10 years of a prior conviction or a DUI with serious bodily injury, are handled in circuit court.

Many agencies across one county

Broward has dozens of cities, and DUI arrests are made by many different agencies. Larger cities such as Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines and Coral Springs have their own police departments. The Broward Sheriff's Office provides police services to some cities, including Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach, and the Florida Highway Patrol works I-95, I-75, I-595 and Florida's Turnpike.

Knowing the agency tells the defense where to request reports, video and breath testing records.

The 10 day deadline in a Broward case

A Broward DUI arrest starts a criminal case and a separate administrative license case with the Florida DHSMV. There are 10 days from the arrest to request a formal review hearing, and without that request the suspension takes effect.

The court date on your paperwork may be weeks away, but the license deadline is not, which is why the license side usually comes first.

How the firm handles Broward cases

DUI Lawyers Shield Firm does not have an office in Broward County; its offices are in Orlando and Satellite Beach. The firm takes Broward cases and answers calls 24 hours a day. In many misdemeanor cases, a lawyer can file a written plea and appear at pretrial hearings for the client.

The first case review is free, and payment plans are available through Affirm, subject to approval.

Broward County DUI questions
It depends on where the case is assigned. Broward's main courthouse is in downtown Fort Lauderdale, and the county also runs regional courthouses in Deerfield Beach, Hollywood and Plantation. The paperwork from your arrest or your first court notice will show the location.
Both cities receive police services from the Broward Sheriff's Office rather than a city police department. On the interstates and toll roads, the Florida Highway Patrol is also active. The agency involved determines where the defense requests reports, video and testing records.
No. DUI Lawyers Shield Firm's offices are in Orlando and Satellite Beach. The firm takes Broward County cases and answers calls 24 hours a day, and in many misdemeanor cases a lawyer can handle pretrial hearings without you attending each one.
